Pretour - third day in Perth
(1st October 2007)
Today after visiting my mum and showing her the documentary based on my book I spent most of my time this afternoon in Fremantle and visited several historical sites.
Without realising it I parked my car right opposite the site of the old Roman Catholic Monastery where a friend of mine experienced a torrid few years over forty years ago. (See top images below). The Monastery was demolished 25 years ago and is currently being redeveloped into a Woolies/retail complex.
After briefly visiting the Fremantle Jail, the Arts Museum (which was a major disappointment) and roaming the streets of Fremantle I came across two buskers (James Maguire and Melissa McCarthy) who's earthy music really touched me - so I had to buy their CD "laliya, just like river" so that I could listen to it while travelling across South Africa. If you love supporting alternative music outside the mainstream and real earth music - do it, buy it... perfect for a beautiful sunset!
Unfortunately my inquisitiveness had drawn me to a psychic fair in Fremantle where my entry payment was wasted. I walked around the "fair" a half darkened room around which Western Australia's top psychics had placed themselves with bold banners extolling their skills. In the centre of the room sat several people waiting to be shown their fate. As I slowly walked around the room studying psychic and student (the person/s being foretold) I felt nothing out of the ordinary. - just a bunch of hocus pocus
My last destination before packing up for South Africa was Mulalloo Beach...
